American Sampler
Naomi Spinak (Bainbridge Island, WA)
Cottons embroidery thread on metallic linen, 16” W x 21” H
Artwork:
Traditionally, girls were taught to embroider at school-instilling and reinforcing the values of the time. This piece illustrates the values and symbols of our time-guns.
Artist Statement:
What leads to our society’s continual inability to protect innocent lives- including those of minorities and children? Why do guns have more rights than gun victims? Do we value life? I want to memorialize the completely countable victims of gun violence in America.
