In Lasting Impressions, three pairs of women’s underwear—delicately sculpted from porcelain—bear the permanent marks of handprints. Each garment varies in size and style, representing the individuality of those affected. Despite the fragility of the material, the impressions are unyielding.
This piece responds to dismissive remarks often made by those in power—framing violations as jokes or harmless gestures. But such actions leave enduring scars, impossible to erase. Lasting Impressions confronts the imbalance of power, the permanence of trauma, and the societal tendency to minimize harm.
Artist Statement:
I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Houston, with over 20 years of experience creating work that speaks where words fall short. At the heart of my practice is a deep belief in the power of community and shared experience.
I continuously explore a wide range of media and techniques, allowing the message to guide the form. Each of my pieces is a deliberate search for the most resonant way to communicate what cannot always be said out loud, and to thereby invite reflection, emotion, and dialogue.
