Buzzy and his Johnny Gun
Christopher Kaspar (Lakewood, Ohio)
Analog photo printed on metal plate, 30” W x 30” H
Artist Statement:
For the past number of years I have concentrated on creating new ways of making art by combining analog photography with a scanning process that creates a new image which is then printed on large scale metal plates. I am interested in images from our past that make statements about current issues or images that speak to me on an aesthetic level.
Artwork:
Toys have always mirrored society. Although newer toy guns have bright colors, the message is still the same: ""Give weapons to the youth so they will be comfortable saying,' You can't take my guns!' when they become adults."" This image is of a boy showing off his new weapon of mass destruction, which he received as a Christmas gift. This photo describes how the fact that guns play such a big part in our society.
