About the Artist
Rothe's celebrated career focused on intricately detailed mezzotints of surreal landscapes, graceful dancers, and horses rendered with anatomical precision. Born in Beuthen, Germany, her training in art history, human anatomy, goldsmithing, and drawing led to her mastery of the mezzotint technique. Each print in her large editions was unique, and she produced over 30,000 works during her lifetime—a testament to her prolific output and lasting influence.
