Fanboy

Barry Jordan (Nacogdoches, TX)

Photography, 15” W x 18” H

Artwork:

Fanboy, like many images from the current photographic series, addresses head-on the current administration’s efforts to politicalize, weaponize, or otherwise control and conform religious practice for purposes of power and/or personal gain. Those peoples, faiths, or belief systems that stand in contradiction and do not conform to established standards of what it means to be a “White Christian nation” become persecuted and denied the expression of their constitutional right to religious freedoms. These actions, at the very least, stand in direct contradiction to the separation of church and state as defined by the US Constitution. Likewise, Fanboy also speaks to the Conservative Evangelical Church’s efforts to segregate within the Christian faith by ostracizing those who do not conform and 'wave the fan' in support their far-right political agenda.
