Betsey MacDonald (Clayville, RI)

Oil, 18” W x 24”

Artwork:

One of the most impactful decisions one can make in terms of reducing one’s environmental footprint is to give up meat and become vegan. It’s good for one’s health, it’s good for the world and it’s certainly good for animals. I don’t want to be part of the animal torture that occurs in our meat industry. The painting portrays a poor pig in a spit, a pig who has probably been confined his entire life, as well as healthy alternative eating choices

Artist Statement:

A great teacher once told me to paint what I love. So, I paint animals. I paint them in their glory and in their freedom. I also paint them in their deaths at our hands. I am compelled to convey that we do not have to be part of the torture of other sentient beings. The animals are not the only reason for eating a plant based diet. Half of all water consumed in the US is used for animal agriculture and it’s responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas production.  Being plant based reduces waste pollution, slows deforestation, helps alleviate world hunger, is better for you, can reverse chronic disease, and reduces your environmental footprint. Plus! It’s delicious

Think of the short life of this poor pig.
