Nancy Stainton (Monterey, CA)

Mixed Media, 20” W x 16” H

Artwork:

This painting is meant to bring awareness of the tragic issue of the many missing and murdered Native American women who's cases are not being investigated. The figures in the background are the missing and murdered Native American women ghosts.

Artist Statement:

My work is about people and animals. I try to portray the sensitivity, compassion and spiritual depths of these subjects. I am particularly interested in portraying people and animals that are not seen in dominant cultures, those whose stories need to be told. I try to bring awareness to indigenous people and their issues as well as threatened animal life. My style is semi realistic, semi impressionistic. My great art influencers have been the Art Masters, and many others - Alphonse Mucha, Gustav Klimt and more. I enjoy using mixed media especially inks and pastel.
