"Tugbaken is a small town located River Gee, southeastern Liberia. It’s not far from Fish town where I was born. “Tugbaken Boy” was drawn from a photograph taken by my good friend Phillip during his visit to Liberia to paint murals in 2016.

This photo caught my attention because of the innocence on the face of the little boy. Most of the kids in this part of Liberia have seen a digital camera. They always look curious when a stranger arrives. They are also very kind to strangers.

It took me a week and half working up to ten hours a day to complete. I would take breaks to settle my sights and ideas during this journey. At the end of the process, I grab a fresh cup of palm wine like I would do sometimes.

“Tugbaken Boy” was drawn with my heart, body, and soul. With an attempt to achieve my desired effects, I made this drawing.

I hope to be a shining light for all who needs me."
